Ecodair aims to decarbonise IT equipment by offering to take back companies' IT equipment, recondition it and reintegrate it to the market. Devices that cannot be reconditioned are dismantled so that the parts in good condition can be used. The rest is then recycled.
Due to the era of digitalization, many electronic devices are created to serve the rising demand. The main products that continue to show promising growth in the manufacturing industry are laptops and desktop computers. Along with the accessories, the products are becoming more and more needed in human daily life. These increasing demands not only result in more resource depletion but also emit more GHGs to the atmosphere.
All Ecodair carbon credits are only available on Riverse registry. The carbon credits covers all the activities of Ecodair.
Ecodair carbon avoidances are calculated with a cradle-to-grave comparative lifecycle analysis, on "global warming" criteria, following ISO 14067 norm.
All carbon credits currently available are ex-post, meaning the carbon avoidances have already been verified and thus are real
Key impact criteria:
The collection of IT waste, which is usually thrown away, involves transport, sorting and logistics costs. These costs are much higher because in the conventional route, a large part of the waste is not collected.
Moreover, it seems necessary to provide resources for the structuring of a reconditioning sector in France. Indeed, this sector is not very well structured today, even if it is booming. Resources are needed to structure this sector and to finance training in the repair and refurbishment of digital products (more information here).
Indeed, today 2/3 of refurbished products sold in France come from the USA or China, it is therefore necessary to develop this sector in France to continue to reduce the emissions associated with digital equipment.
Avoided emissions correspond to emissions that will never be emitted. This is due to the fact that substitution by reconditioned products allows to avoid a purchase (and thus a production and the associated emissions) and to extend the product's life span.
Avoided emissions can be associated to each product reconditioned by Ecodair. The information can be verified through the data of the production management system (ERP).
Expansion of the supply chain:
Production of new parts
Overly regular renewal of equipment
