Mobius Reemploi developed a process and production facility specifically to reconditioned technical floor slabs, addressing the needs for refurbishment or new constructions with products that have less impact on the environment.
Decreasing CO2 emissions in the construction sector is part of the EU targets for achieving a reduction of GHG emissions by 40% compared to 1990 levels in 2030. Meanwhile, in France the target is to reduce 36% compared to 2005. France’s 2030 target for greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions not covered by the EU Emissions Trading System (non-ETS), is -36 % compared to 2005. To achieve this by means of the decrease of energy consumption, the sector of building construction is very important.
All Mobius carbon credits are only available on Riverse registry. The carbon credits covers all the activities of Mobius.
Mobius carbon avoidances are calculated with a cradle-to-grave comparative lifecycle analysis, on "global warming" criteria, following ISO 14067 norm.
All carbon credits currently available are ex-post, meaning the carbon avoidances have already been verified and thus are real.
Key impact criteria:
Setting up a new reconditioning chain for construction material is a real challenge in terms of sourcing and process to be implemented, and authorization to obtain, in order to succeed in these operations. Mobius has demonstrated its efficiency and must now scale up to establish the profitability of the process.
Mobius Reemploi remains an alternative more expensive than new products. Indeed all the tasks performed (removal / packaging / transportation / repackaging / lab testing / sourcing) are manual and based in Europe with a much higher labor cost than in the industries that produce new products.
The project aims for avoiding CO2 emissions. Therefore, there are no permanence issues. The avoided emissions correspond to emissions that will never be emitted because the technical floor slabs reconditioned by the Mobius process allow a perfect substitution and thus avoid the production of new floors.
The saving on resources for the development of this solution can lead to an increase in production or consumption. These long term effects can be direct, indirect, or economic wide.
There is a possibility that if the refurbished flooring does not have a long enough life span, the amount of floorings made with new materials will be purchased, therefore fewer no positive effects on resource consumption would be appreciated. Mobius ensures the good quality of the product provided, which can be easily seen by the lack of maintenance that the engineered floors need.
The reference lifetime of engineered floors provided by Mobius is 50 years, which is an average time for different types of materials. As one of the components of the engineered floors is wood, it is expected that with low-quality wood and installation, the lifespan would be between 20 to 30 years, whereas for materials with high-grade and quality installation, the expected lifespan is between 50 to 80 years.
